It has been seven months since my last post.... Sincere apologies, but the one and only resolution I will make this New Year, will be to keep my blog ticking! This is all thanks to the wonderful Messy Carla who convinced me to do so last night at our friend Natalie's annual gathering. I love the party every year, it's unbelievable that we all parted ways at the end of school/sixth form and yet still meet up five years later and fit straight back in to place even though for some of us, this is the only night in the entire year that we see any of the group.

As I have said, my New Year's Resolution is to pick up the laptop and start again with the blog, but before I delve straight back in, I thought I'd take the time to review the year, not so much as a news article but my opinions on the important things in life.... music/TV/films/fashions/New Makeup.... so here it is....

Sarah-May's year - 2010

My Favourite songs of 2010 are of course most people's favourite songs of 2010 I imagine. The first being Magnetic Man - I Need Air. I think British music has taken a bizarre but amazing turn this past year with the introduction of Commercial Dub Step, and I honestly do think that British music is one of the best scenes in the world right now, with artistes such as Tinie Tempah, and Cheryl Cole, an the opposite end fo the spectrum with artistes like Imelda May, the world of British Music has improved an infinite amount since the last time we monopolized the music scene with 5ive, Spice Girls etc.

The second song I am just going to have to mention would be Cee Lo Green - Forget You. Do I have to say anything about it??? I think not!

My Favourite Films this year have definitely been a mixed bunch!

I am a sucker for a good action film, and give me something in which Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, and Morgan Freeman star about retired Spies.... I was glued to the screen. Of course I'm talking about RED.

Predators was also an awesome film. I forced Libby to see it with me, even though she's not a fan of creepy murderous aliens clad in metal as I am. I loved every second of it, brilliant film.

The A Team, as a stand alone film, completely aside from the original series is a fantastic film. You can't help but compare it, but it is hilarious, and filled with massive explosions... awesome!

I also have a penchant for children's films, so I really enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon, Toy Story 3, and The Princess and the Frog particularly floated my boat.

My Favourite TV this year, as many others will probably agree, has consisted mainly of Glee. The exciteable American Teenagers, cheerily singing huge hits always with a very gay aura surrounding them has just been must-watch for me. Made one million times better by the character of Sue Sylvester played by the amazing Jane Lynch, she has me craving her scenes every single episode!

Nigella Lawson has been a staple part of our evening television diet. I just can't get enough of her pout, the way she witters on like a mad woman, and of course the food!

One of my favourite fashion items this year has been the drop crotch jean. Sadly this is an item that I can not wear on my body form. Vivienne Westwood has crept in to my life, aggressively and full of fabulousness! Everything about the woman's designs just makes me happy!

I hope I didn't bore you to death! I would really love to hear what your favourite parts of 2010 were, and your resolutions if you've made any at all!

Hello Sailor!

Of course we all know that nautical is in this summer, and if you know me, you also know that I have been obsessed with anything nautical for years now....so what better time to do some fabby nautical makeup???!

So yeah, anything with anchors or compasses and I'm happy... you can't really tell from looking at this picture but the compass and the anchor are both glittery. XD

Aldo... though it's not strictly makeup... I had to show you the colour fo this FABULOUS nail varnish we got the other day!!!!

What a fabulous mint green... tying in perfectly with the pastel shades to wear this summer.... aaaaand if you want to win this brill Barry M nail varnish, have a look at the competition my friend messy carla is running on her blog (link under 'messy carla') and you could win it plus loads of other really really cool stuff!

Lush Colour Supplement

As promised, I have got myself a jar of Lush's new Colour Supplement in 'light yellow', even though the shop assistant suggested light pink, when I KNOW that I have a yellow tone to my skin.... (sorry it just irritated me a little bit).... I'm not going to go against the wisdom of a MAC Artiste and change my colour because a Lush Shop Assistant told me to.... I do love Lush however, and the assistant agreed with me once I had tested both the light yellow and light pink.

Anyway.... what a bizarre product!!!!

I knew I would have to play around with it to ensure that I used it correctly. You can use this base neat or by mixing it with moisturiser.... what they don't tell you is that you have to get the consistency perfect for it to even make a difference to your skin. What I mean by this is, I mixed it 50/50 with a very good moisturiser (Aveeno) and started to apply it to my face.... it was almost as if it had turned from a liquid to a mousse foundation but it refused to go on my skin and instead, rolled up in to little balls and crumbled in my hand.... maybe a Lush moisturiser is what is needed? hmmm.....

Try again.... This time I tried (despite my first wishes) by mixing it 70/30 moisturiser being the 70... I might as well have been wearing no foundation whatsoever.... I tried building it, and sadly, it would not build, instead it just moved around my face. *sigh* Third time lucky?

In fact, it was third time lucky. I used it neat. It felt light on my face, was a very even coverage which was buildable, and despite the fact that it looked slightly darker than I had originally thought, it seemed to not dry as such but change colour so that it was lighter on my face. I took some pictures, and I am wearing as little eye makeup as possible as to not distract from the base, and I am wearing concealer and a powder over the top... but here it is....

This is probably the least makeup you will ever see me ut on here lol but yeah, to conclude as far as I can tell at the moment, the Lush Colour Supplement is quite good. :) I would suggest to anyone thinking of buying it to play around with it first and to go with the colour you think will suit you, not what the lush advisors are trained to tell you will suit you.

It has been designed to be used as a foundation alone or with a moisturiser as a tint! I will have to try this out!!!!! I'M SOOOOO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!

Collection 2000

I remember years ago... when I had just started wearing makeup... I used to get Collection 2000 (have a look here!) because it was the cheapest makeup line (other than Miss Sporty) that Boots had. Until recently, I hadn't bothered buying it, because quite frankly, cheap=a bit rubbish....

NOT ANYMORE!

Cheap=fantastic!

Imagine my surprise when I decided to buy a liquid eye-liner, a couple of mascaras, and get the free eye palette that came with it from Collection 2000, and it was actually.... wow! Why haven't I been buying this all my life?! I'm speaking, of course, more about this eye palette... the colours? Amazing! They don't lose their brightness on your skin, and they feel fabulous! They glide on! Honestly, if I had been told that these eye shadows were UD, I would totally have believed it!

Anyway, the palette I received free was named 'Poptastic' and looks like this....

only the colours are much brighter than on this picture.

I decided to try some of them out for an interesting look and chose:

The yellow at the top, the green/yellow second row, the green on bottom row and the blue in the middle of the second row.

The liquid eye liner used is also collection 2000 and I'm wearing 'longer lash' mascara and 'collagen curl' mascara also by Collection 2000.

I am definitely going to continue buying from this line! woop woop!

Good afternoon lovelies!

After going to see Alice in Wonderland last week, and being completely taken aback by the makeup and the just down right fabulousness of it all, I decided to do a post on Alice In Wonderland makeup....

The first in the series is of course, the man who stole the show, The Mad Hatter.

I would seriously consider doing this makeup for fancy dress sometime... if only it didn't make my nose look so big!!!! haha.

Really enjoyed doing it though, hopefully the next one will be as good, and kee you eyes peeled later this week for my fabulous Zombie Pin Up Girl makeup for Zombie night at work!

Skins

Now I don't know about you, but I've been watching Skins this season, and I have been thoroughly enjoying it! It's good to see that although, yes, they are still glamourising drugs *BAD* they're showing the negative effects that the drugs are having also *GOOD*.

Now how does this relate to my blog...? Simple answer.... EFFY.

for those of you who do not know who Effy is....

Stunning. It's a really messy, almost unfinished look. I guess her looks make her look as though she's been out all night and hasn't been washed or something, but I'd be quite happy to look like that if I'd been out all night and hadn't washed! So I decided to recreate the look on my wonderful (as always) assistant Libby...

I've gone for the same really messy eye look, extreme blacks and an extreme cats-eye flick, I also used a white shimmer to hightlight the centre of her eye. A dark blusher and a dark lip colour. I liked it, don't think Lib was too keen; she's not used to wearing such extreme makeup. :)

safari/military

Safari and Military are in for the summer yet again, so I thought I'd do a look to match this look, and of course it means you can see the BOURJOIS FOUNDATION I've been using.

So yeah, this look combines Khakis, browns and golds, and is a very easy, low-maintenace effective look which of course it perfect in the summer when you can't be arsed to do too much with your makeup because we all know it'll just drip down your face in the end!

I used the Urban Decay Preen Shadow Box to create this look using both browns and the khaki colour.

I used the khaki colour on my lids and used a brown on my crease and blended it outwards. I used a gold in the centre of my lids to highlight the colours used, and used a kohl pencil along the top and bottom lid smudging in both areas. I used a brown under the bottom of my eye and blended it with my eyeliner. I used no liquid liner for this look, but alot of mascara to finish. If I was a little darker or it was the height of summer, rather than using a deep plum blush as I did, I'd use a nice peach bronzer instead.

review and re-review

First of all I'm going to re-review the Mac Mineralize satinfinish foundation after using it for about two months....

Yeah, it started brilliantly, had an OK coverage, looked quite nice on... however, after a while of using it, I found that I broke out quite badly, and the coverage I realised wasn't as good as I had first thought. I like my face to look plastic and it just didn't do that. What I hadn't realised about this foundation was that it was slightly shimmery... I say shimmery, I mean glittery. Not always the best look to be going for.

All in all, it was a good foundation, but not one I'd buy again over a Mac Foundation stick.

WINGE!! Went to the designer outlet to see if I could get some more cheap Mac foundation the other day, and upon entering the amazing shop I found that the only foundations they were stocking that week/fortnight was for very much a darker skin tone... borange. I don't wear borange foundation so I had to leave empty handed. Being the only place in Yorj that stocks Mac cosmetics at all, I had to get a foundation that wasn't Mac, which leads me on the my review....

Bourjois 10 hour sleep effect....

So far so good. They do it in a large range of colours, and surprisingly a quite good match for my skin! It's matt, and seems to have a really good coverage and manages to cover the uneven skin tones in my face.

Hello lovelies...

I need to start doing more blogs again! However, saying that, here's a look I've been thinking about for some time. Inspired by a gorgeous woman, and a perfect look for all you alternatives out there!

Kat Von D.

When I bought her book not too long ago, I fell in love with her work and to have even just one piece by her would be such an amazing feeling. Not only has she excelled in a male dominated career choice, but she's gorgeous, talented and a woman who doesn't give a shit what anyone else thinks. Inspirational.

This is my take on her look, obviously without the star tattoos on my face hehe.

Yet again, a look for the paler skin. Heavy on the eye makeup, with her trademark cats-eye, heavy on the blusher and a dark red lipstick.

Although the picture isn't very good, basically I used an ash colour on the entirety on my lids, a black at my crease and a gold to highlight the middle of my lid. This is a typical Kat Von D look, the gold and the black, and she often uses the gold underneath her eye too, I have chosen this time not to do that. Heavy liquid eye liner in a cats eye shape and a kohl liner smudged heavily along the bottom lash line. Large amounts of mascara finishes this look.

For my blusher I used a dark pink and took it straight along my cheek bones and didn't blend it very well, it's better if you go quite extreme for this look, and instead of using a bright red lipstick, this time I used a deep red and a gloss over the top.

Your base must be perfect to pull this look off, if not, the blusher will catch on your imperfections and make them look worse!

Yet again, apologies for the lack of posting of late, but I've been struggling to find the hours in the day to sleep let alone come up with some new makeup!!!

I've found myself with a few moments today, however, before having to get ready for work again, so I decided to make a post of all of the women/men that inspire my makeup...

First of all, there would be the fabulous woman who inspires my day-to-day glamour...

The fabulous Dita Von Teese.

Of course, I'm inspired by Burlesque makeup in general; the beautiful Roxy Velvet, and the fabulously sassy Jami Deadly to name but two of the artists I admire for more than just their makeup. A porcelain matt base, smoulering red lips and statement eyes... It's just THE erfect look for me!

This of course leads me on to the wonderful works of Gil Elvgren....

Yes, I know they're not real. And yes, I know there is a large opulation of women who find this kind of work degrading... but you know what? I find it empowering to be able to take this art, and use it to my advantage! Which woman does not want to look like a pin-up girl???

And how much closer could you get than Jean Hagen??? (Singing In The Rain)

What a beautiful woman! She really does smoulder in every respect of the word! Gorgeous hair, wonderful bone structure.... if I looked like Jean Hagen, I would be a very happy woman.

And speaking of pin-up girls,there isn't a more obvious reference than the beautiful Marilyn Monroe.

Not only was her makeup perfect, her hair pefrect, but she was a bigger woman! Fuck size zero, what girl wouldn't want to look like Marilyn?! (as I'm sure my wonderful Friend Carla would agree!)

From Marilyn to Jeffree Star.I've posted about him before, and probably will continue to post about this wonderfully stunning man. The makeup is always perfection, and not many people could get away with having bright pink hair and still look amazing... (I know I certainly didn't!) He has a large following, and I'm not afraid to say that I like Scene Girls!

Don't her eyes just POP!? Yet again,I think I like Scene makeup because it's pale and dramatic. Only Scene Girls could wear concealer on their lips and still look good, and a piercing or two just adds to the beuatiful qualities of Scene Girls.

After mentioning piercings, I couldn't go any further without putting a Suicide Girl in here. Tattoos, piercings, and often heavy makeup.... Alternative pin-up girls... what's not to love???

Gordon Espinet... MAC Artiste. Such vision. This piece was created using the dishevelled glamour of hollywood starletts ie. Lindsay Lohan, and the Olsen twins. Pale skin, and massive amounts of smudged eyeliner makes me happy.

and finally, without these fabulous men, the Drag Queens of Newcastle Gay Scene, I would never have become so fascinated with makeup. Left to right...

Miss Rory, Penny Arcade, Miss Kitty, Ophelia Balls, Sushe Buffet, Tequila Mockingbird and Vicky Paris.

Amazing men, amazing makeup, and all of the tips I have learnt have come from these men here.

Anyway, sorry for the massive post haha, but it's better than nothing.

New Hair Colour.... New Makeup

Apologies for the lack of posting...I have had to put a lot of thought in to a new post.

'From Monroe to Manson' was my original thought process after I had dyed my hair, no more platinum blonde (well visibly anyway). I decided against my first train of thought, once I had decided that I would not like to pay for Gold teeth. *shudders*

So, I decided to go for a simple, smoky eyed look, that would look fantastic during the day (as it is not as dark and dramatic as most smoky eyed looks and I know that it's pretty much just me in this world that likes to leave the house with a full face of night-makeup on for work in the morning). Instead of blacks and greys for this look, I have used brown,peach and bronze, as it is more accessible and looks fantastic with the new hair colour.... so here goes!

Apologies for the awful pictures, but heres how I did it.

I brushed a bronze colour (a very shimmery one) across my lids and took it up to meet my brow on the outer edges. I then used a darker bronze to contour my crease before using a peach colour across my brow bone and blending them together. I used to first bronze and the peach colour to line under my waterline, thickly, and blended them together before applying my kohl eyeliner (no liquid) and smudging it top and bottom. instead of using a blusher, I used a bronze on my cheek bones and penciled my brows in. I used LOTS of mascara to finish the look.

Who says you can't wear a smoky eye look during the day!?

There was an iconic style which pushed itself beyond the boundaries of gender and threw itself on to the 80s pop scene like Sally infront of Ashley's car (Emmerdale).

This style was New Romanticism.

hehe I made a video too but I can't seem to upload it anywhere so I'll try and sort it out and post it another time..... this is the look :)

Lots of pink, very severe lines everywhere and kohl eyeliner (no liquid and no smudge). no shaping in eye brows, straight across with a powder not a pencil.... really straight forward to do really. Will try to put up video... :/

Yes, apologies for the lack of posts but I have been very busy of late, what with turning 21 and everything *rolls eyes* but anyway, did some new makeup this morning, I don't usually use green because I'm not always sure it suits me, but I thought 'what the hell, it's definitely quirky if it's not a good colour on me!' and took some pictures for you all!

It's like a smoky eye look but with green instead of blacks browns or greys... because of course, you don't have to follow the rules do you??

Yet again apologies for the pictures not being fantastic, but basically, I used a light(ish) green on my lids to my crease, a bright green on the corners and along my crease and a green kohl eyeliner along the lid and my waterline. I also used a black liquid liner on my lids and a glittery green eyeliner lining the entirety of my eyes.

Also, if you weren't aware, very dark (or black even) lipsticks and lipglosses are in again this season, so if you want to go out and buy a quality black lipstick/lipgloss I suggest Urban Decay Lipstick in Oil Slick (it's slightly glittery which of course breaks up the fact that you're wearing black lipstick)... or like me, if you don't want to go out and buy a lipstick that dark as it'll not be in for long, just put on a dark/black eyeshadow and gloss over it!!!

MAC!

No pictures of new makeup today I'm afraid, but I just wanted to tell you all of the wonderful-ness of York Designer Outlet shopping!

My Manager and I went to do some Networking there today, and I was drawn in to a shop called 'The Cosmetics Company Store'... how very original. Aside from the name however, the shop itself.... what a Godsend! Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, DKNY, and of course everyone's favourite MAC.

I was in need of some new foundation, and after trying the Studio Stick foundation I fell in love. I just find it so easy with MAC, because I am the same colour (NC15 because yes, I am Magnolia skinned hehe) in all of their foundations, and they're all so buildable, and the coverage... OMG I couldn't be any more in love (except for the wife of course!). So today, instead of buying the studio stick foundation I bought the 'Mineralize Satin Finish' foundation, which usually costs between £20 and £25....

You wanna know how much I got it for????

My Jeffree Star look......

It actually took hourrrrs! I really feel for Jeffree having to do his makeup like this everyday!

Method???? I can't really remember! It took that much to do! I put a grey base on my eyes up to the crease, which i went over with a white shimmer. I lined my crease with a black right to the corner and then went over it in a black shimmer. I lined my eyes with a liquid liner, and my waterline with a pencil which i took further down and smudged in to the liquid liner. On the bottom, my liquid eyeliner towards the centre of my eye does not follow the shape of my eye but fans downwards a little leaving a small gap between my waterline and the eyeliner which i filled in with a white eyeshadow. I used a white/gret eyeshadow above my eyes up to my brow line and then went over it in the white shimmer. I lined my brows prominently, and used a liquid blusher along my cheekbones. Yet again, my favourite thing to wear is false eyelashes and of course I couldn't do a Jeffree look without them! No lipstick was applied nor lipgloss. If you don't know Jeffree Star, then the point of his makeup I believe is to look a bit fake.... I say a bit, I mean completely and I LOVE IT! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE IT! I may have to wear this makeup again in public this time. :D

Urban Foray...

So before work last night I decided that we (being myself and Libby) were to try some Urban Decay makeup out..... So using an Urban Decay eyeshadow Palette, an Urban Decay eye liner and an Urban Decay Eye Shadow Potion, I created this look on Libby....

I have decided that this is an Urban Peacock look.

First of all, I used the eye shadow primer potion before sweeping generous amounts of the purple eye shadow along her lid below the crease. I then used the bright blue the line her crease and blended them together a little at the outside corner of her eye.

My Makeup was the same way I always do it (see my usual day-look) the only difference being that I used Urban Decay eyeshadows instead of my usual, giving a shimmering effect to my eyes which I quite liked....

Though you probably can't see any difference to the others that I've posted lol it was a heavier more glittery look.

AAAAAnd because I have nothing better to do this afternoon other than bake cupcakes, I will be doing my own take on a typical Jeffree Star look....

and there will also be pictures going up later as our housemate Holly is going to a wedding, and I have convinced her to allow me to do her makeup mwahahahahaha

My usual day-look, Vogue and Body Art...

Ok so I thought I'd post a picture of my usual day-look because it's me.... obviously inspired by the wonderful Monroe....

And secondly... there were a few articles whilst flicking through British Vogue today that caught my eye...The article entitled 'The Return on Makeup' was the first. Brilliant article in which the writer has her makeup applied by Genius Terry Barber Director of makeup Artistry at MAC.... I'd die.

Second article to really catch my eye was entitled 'Life Drawing'. Basically, because a few designers applied temp tattoos and painted fabulous artwork on their models for their spring/summer collections, body art is now in again. Not the awful body art we all adorned in the 90s, but fabulous ART.... which inspired me to do this piece of art on my face......

Based very loosely on the Willow Pattern and Asian Culture.... just fancied something different to those god-awful rhinestone patterns I used to stick on my face when I was 10.

First of all I'd like to thank you for accidentally coming across my page when you were actually looking for porn.... and secondly, I'd like to thank you for reading this far! Well done you!

Ok, so I thought I'd start with my favourite look.... which isn't actually that difficult!

Big Cat Pin-up!

So yeah... the desired effect is a leopard print pattern on the eye lids with a pin-up everything else! And yeah, I know the eye makeup is leopard print and the headband suggests a smaller cat... but you know what..? I DON'T CARE! :P

So shall we proceed with the method????

Apply your base evenly;

I used a liquid foundation, concealer then a powder foundation to create an even-ish finish.

Apply a gold eye shadow to the lid under your crease and then a bronze coloured eyeshadow along the crease, making sure to blend evenly. You could use matt colours light browns and red-browns if you like, I prefer the shimmery golds and bronzes for this look.

Apply a colour a little lighter than your natural skin colour to line your brow bone and using a liquid eyeliner, line your eyes in a cats-eye shape. I always find it easier to line the bottom of my eye first because doing so means you can follow the line of your eye upwards at the edge and get both sides perfectly matched. :) You can line your waterline with a pencil too if you like.

Now for the fiddly bit.... It's not that difficult to do really, you may find it easier dabbing your liquid liner in the pattern of the leopard spots rather than drawing them straight on. It also gives a better effect. At the outside corner of your eye, take the print all the way to your brow bone and taper it down towards the centre. It doesn't really have to be perfect, just remember, no two leopards are the same! It might help however to have something to use as a template to copy.

Although you can't see fantastically because the picture isn't amazing... I have also dabbed a dark brown colour on the inside of all of the spots for that real leopard print effect.

This next bit IS optional, but I couldn't live without them... false eyelashes. :D These particular falsies incase you were wondering are in face Eyelure Girls Aloud strip lashes in none other than Cheryl Cole!

To finish the look, I added a bright red lipstick and a beauty spot under my eye which is another thing I couldn't live without! This is what makes this Big Cat makeup that little bit Pin up, which IS my favourite type of makeup.

Then I remembered I had the cat ears. :) So I hope you enjoy my first post, will try and make some videos soon, but it will mean having to put up with my rambling while you're trying to do your makeup!
